Churches whose status is not recognized by all

Some Churches are recognized by part of the communion only. For each, we note who recognizes it.

Orthodox Church in America

Metropolitan Tikhon

See: Washington

Revised Julian (New) calendar

Recognized by some of the local Churches

Recognized as autocephalous by Moscow (which granted the tomos in 1970), Georgia, Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Lands and Slovakia. The other Churches are in full communion with it without recognizing its autocephaly.

Macedonian Orthodox Church – Archdiocese of Ohrid

Archbishop Stefan of Ohrid and Macedonia

See: Skopje and Ohrid

Julian (Old) calendar

Recognized by some of the local Churches

Autocephaly granted by the Serbian Church (tomos of June 5, 2022) and recognized by the Churches of Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, and the Czech Lands and Slovakia, as well as by the Orthodox Church in America (Holy Synod decision of May 21, 2025). The Ecumenical Patriarchate restored communion in May 2022 under the name "Church of Ohrid," without recognizing the autocephaly, and the Churches of Greece, Georgia and Albania likewise recognize its canonicity only. The decision of the Church of Antioch (February 2023) is reported by some sources as a recognition of autocephaly, and by others as a recognition of canonicity only. Jerusalem concelebrates without a formal synodal decision, while Alexandria and Cyprus have taken no decision. The Church of Ohrid has said that it still seeks a tomos from Constantinople, and the Church of Bulgaria objects to the title "Archdiocese of Ohrid."

Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine

See: Kiev

Julian (Old) calendar

Recognized by some of the local Churches

Recognized as the canonical Church of Ukraine by the Serbian Church and most local Churches. Constantinople, Alexandria, Greece and Cyprus recognize the Orthodox Church of Ukraine instead.
