1Then I saw another great and marvelous sign in heaven: seven angels with the seven last plagues, for in those last plagues God’s wrath is completed. 2I also saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who overcame the beast, his image,2589 and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass. They held harps given to them by God and 3they sang the song of Moses the bondservant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying:
Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty!
Righteous and true are your ways, O King of the saints.2590
4Who would not fear, O Lord, and glorify your Name?
For you only are holy.
Certainly, all the nations will come and express adoration2591 before you,
For your righteous deeds have been revealed.
5After these things, I looked:2592 the sanctuary2593 of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened. 6The seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the sanctuary, robed with pure, bright linen and wearing golden sashes around their chests.2594
7One of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives unto ages of ages. 8And the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power. No one was able to enter into the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels would be finished.
The seven bowls
- TR adds “his mark”
- Or “nations” (TR) or “ages” (as in NIV)
- proskuneo can also be translated “worship (in the broad sense),” “venerate,” “fall down in reverence,” “do obeisance” (see NT introduction regarding proskuneo)
- TR adds “and behold,”
- The Greek is unclear as to the relationship between the sanctuary and the tabernacle. It may be possible to insert {which is} after “sanctuary”
- Indicating a priestly office
